PlummerVineyard

Paso Robles AVA

This vineyard property was originally developed in 2002 on part of a larger estate which, for many years, had been fallowed in the Federal agricultural preserve program.  The terrain of the area selected for initial planting varies from modestly- to steeply-sloped with much of the planting on southwest-facing slopes.  Soils in the planted area are variable, as is common to the Paso Robles area, and include Arbuckle-Positas and San Ysidro/Rincon loam complexes.  The original planting of Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah was done with 8 ft row spacing and 6 ft vine spacing, designed for bi-lateral cordon training with a Vertical Shoot Positioned (VSP) trellis system.  The Cabernet Franc planting was done in 2005, using the same 8 by 6 spacing and trellis system.

The entire vineyard is planted with a WSW to ENE row orientation, selected to reduce fruit exposure to direct sunlight during veraison.  This unique row orientation has successfully reduced fruit sunburn and allows harvest “hang time” flexibility.  Wines from Plummer Vineyard fruit have consistently shown intense color and good acidity/tannin balance.

The vineyard is professionally farmed by Vineyard Professional Services with significant input from the vineyard owners, who reside on the property.  Sustainable farming practices are consistently maintained and the overall operation is being reviewed for “certification” as a sustainable vineyard.
